As a mom and registered dietitian, I am passionate about nutrition and physical activity, not only for myself but for our children as well. That’s why I am so excited about the Hy-Vee KidsFit™ program.
Hy-Vee KidsFit™ Highlights:
- FREE online personal trainer
- Health and fitness program for kids ages 7-17
- Developed by a certified personal trainer with a specialization in youth fitness
- No equipment or gym needed
- Fun workouts for all fitness levels
- Workouts can be done individually or as a family
- Promotes healthy habits
- Healthy eating tips from Hy-Vee dietitians
In an effort to spread the word about this valuable program, Hy-Vee is partnering with Rochester Public Schools and the School Aged Child Care (SACC) program.
On June 20, I had the opportunity to visit both SACC sites and introduce the students to the Hy-Vee KidsFit™ program. We organized a mini workout and discussed the importance of good nutrition using MyPlate as a guide to balanced eating. Then, throughout the summer months, the students have had the chance to participate in the Hy-Vee KidsFit™ 5-week challenge with the help of SACC leaders. This program has easy-to-follow workout videos, nutrition advice from Hy-Vee dietitians and weekly blogs. I also encouraged families to sign up for an individual account and follow along through the 5-Week Challenge to help form healthy habits at home. Signing up for the challenge provides kids with daily activities and workouts where they can set goals and track their progress to earn virtual trophies.
To celebrate their progress, Hy-Vee invited the SACC students into the stores for a fun field trip filled with a store tour, scavenger hunt and a healthy snack on July 26.
Hy-Vee and Hy-Vee KidsFit™ are committed to providing health and wellness events and activities that engage our customers and benefit our communities. Only one out of three children is physically active every day and only one in three adults receives the recommended amount of physical activity each week.
