Women’s Shelter Wish List Drive

The Rochester Hy-Vee stores hosted a Wish List Drive for the Women’s Shelter on Saturday, June 3.

Women’s Shelter, Inc. assists victims of domestic violence and their children by establishing and maintaining a facility that provides temporary shelter and supplies to those who seek help.

Volunteers staffed tables at all four stores, greeting customers, handing out wish lists and recruiting donations.

At the end of the event, the Women’s Shelter gathered a total of $554 in cash and gift cards in addition to 26 packages of diapers, 48 packages of baby wipes and 86 personal care products.

None of this could have been possible without the help of Hy-Vee’s generous customers.

Memorial Day Grilling Event

Your 37th Street Hy-Vee hosted a Memorial Day grilling event on Monday, May 29.  Customers were invited to purchase hamburgers, hot dogs, bratwurst, soda or water and support the perpetual care fund of the Soldiers Field Veterans Memorial.  The event also showcased a flag display (US flag, POW-MIA flag as well as service branch flags), Bells for Eternity and volunteers representing the Soldiers Field Veterans Memorial committee.

Fifteen percent of all proceeds were donated to help ensure that Soldiers Field Veterans Memorial remains one of the finest in the country.  At the end of the event, a grand total of $459.51 was presented to Terry Throndson, current board member and owner of the Bells for Eternity.

Fresh Funds at Hy-Vee

For the second year in a row, your Rochester Hy-Vee stores have partnered with Channel One on the Fresh Funds program.  Our goal was to fill the food shelf with fresh,
nutritious foods.

Throughout the month of April, customers were invited to donate $5, $10 or $20 at checkout.  The money was then deposited into a separate account for Channel One.

With the help of our customers, the Rochester Hy-Vee stores successfully raised a total of $4,870 through the Fresh Funds program. The food shelf receives 100 percent of the total amount collected and will use the funds to purchase fresh fruits, vegetables and dairy products for the food shelf clients.

Channel One Regional Food Bank and Food Shelf currently serves 100,000 individuals throughout 14 counties.  Every month, 3,400 local families visit the Channel One Supplemental Food Shelf.

The Fresh Funds program is intended to help reduce hunger and obesity in Olmsted County.  It was adapted from Living Healthy in Washington County – Fresh Green Buck$ and is supported by the Olmsted County Statewide Health Improvement Program and Minnesota Department of Health.

A Mile of Mac and Cheese

How many boxes of macaroni and cheese does it take to make a mile?

About 9,000.mile-mac-2017-2

The Rochester Hy-Vee stores partnered with Channel One Regional Food Bank during Rochester’s local WinterFest activities with a “lengthy” goal in mind – to collect a mile of mac and cheese

Together, we hosted a special collection event at all four Rochester Hy-Vee stores on Saturday, Jan. 28 and Sunday, Jan. 29.  Thirty-eight volunteers took turns greeting customers and spreading word about our goal.  The hope was that the community would help fill Channel One’s shelves with 9,000 boxes of macaroni and cheese.
