Hy-Vee Supports Join the Journey with Event and Donation

The West Circle Drive Hy-Vee hosted a wine & cheese fundraising event to benefit Join the Journey on Thursday, August 10.  The event gathered 34 attendees and featured over 20 samples.

With the support of our local wine and cheese vendors who donated all products sampled during the event, Hy-Vee presented a donation of $500 to Join the Journey on Wednesday, August 16.  Alyssa Griffith, Operations Manager, accepted the check on behalf of Join the Journey.

Join the Journey is dedicated to promoting breast cancer awareness and supporting individuals on their breast cancer journey.  Join the Journey was founded in 2005. Effie Psimos and Patty Allen, breast cancer survivors, and close friend Margie Loprinzi, came together with the hope of raising awareness of breast cancer in Rochester, Minnesota.  Before long, Join the Journey had its first Ten-Mile Breast Cancer Awareness Walk.  The community response was tremendous, and participation grows each year. In 2016, nearly 1,000 people participated!

Join the Journey has evolved into an established non-profit community organization, which supports programs and projects that uphold its mission of promoting breast cancer awareness and supporting individuals on their breast cancer journey.

Hy-Vee Starbucks Employees Donate Tips to March of Dimes

Every month, our Starbucks employees inside the West Circle Drive Hy-Vee donate their tips to a local charity.

March of Dimes was selected as the charity of choice for the month of June.

Tips collected throughout the month totaled $1,099.38

Paul Klinger, Board Chair for the Rochester chapter, graciously accepted the donation on behalf of March of Dimes on July 10, 2017.

The mission of the March of Dimes is to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality.

Looking ahead to next month, July’s tips will be donated to Recovery is Happening.

Hy-Vee and the Great American Milk Drive

Helping families in our community get access to much-needed milk!

This past June, Rochester Hy-Vee stores and Kemps partnered with The Great American Milk Drive to deliver much-needed, nutrient-rich milk to families served by Channel One Food Shelf.

Shoppers were invited to donate the monetary equivalent of a half or whole gallon of milk at checkout. Through the generosity of our customers, we were able to raise enough funds to distribute 6,965 FREE MILK vouchers to Channel One clients throughout the fall.

The unredeemed vouchers were converted into physical gallons this week.

On December 21, KEMPS delivered 1,268 half gallons to fill the food shelf for Christmas week.  We are planning for over 4,000 more units to be delivered over the coming weeks and months.

We sincerely appreciate the support of our program sponsors as well as our customers for their commitment to resolving the milk shortage in food banks.
